1. 2026 Commercial Concrete Slab Classifications & Pricing
Commercial concrete slabs-on-ground (SOG) are classified under American Concrete Institute (ACI 360R / ACI 302.1R) guidelines based on anticipated vehicle axle loads, rack post concentrated loads, and surface flatness tolerances.
| SOG Class | Thickness | Mix Design | Reinforcement | Turnkey Installed / SF | Typical Facility Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light Commercial | 4" – 5" | 3,500 PSI | Welded Wire Mesh | $8.50 – $11.50 | Retail storefronts, office suites, self-storage, light commercial auto bays. |
| Standard Warehouse | 6" – 7" | 4,000 PSI | #4 Rebar @ 16" O.C. | $10.50 – $14.50 | Distribution centers, light manufacturing, pallet jack & light forklift traffic. |
| Heavy Industrial | 8" – 10" | 4,500–5,000 PSI | #5 Rebar Double Mat | $14.00 – $19.50 | Heavy forklift traffic, high-bay automated racking (ASRS), manufacturing plants. |
| Post-Tension (PT) SOG | 5" – 8" | 4,000 PSI | 0.5" Mono-Strand Tendons | $11.50 – $17.50 | Expansive clay soils (Texas, Oklahoma, California), jointless high-tolerance floors. |
2. Estimating Ready-Mix Concrete Volume (Cubic Yard Formula)
Commercial concrete yardage is calculated by multiplying footprint area by slab depth in feet, divided by 27 cubic feet per yard, adding a 7% waste & grade variance factor:
For a 15,000 sq ft slab at 6 inches (0.5 ft): 15,000 × 0.5 ÷ 27 = 277.8 net yards. With a 7% variance factor, order 298 to 304 cubic yards (~30 transit mixer truckloads).
