Engineering Basis & Compliance Standards
OpenADR 2.0b Protocol Architecture
OpenADR (Automated Demand Response) facilitates machine-to-machine signaling between the Utility Virtual Top Node (VTN) and building Virtual End Node (VEN). Signals dispatch `OADR_DISTRIBUTE_EVENT` XML payloads over HTTPS/XMPP to trigger BMS curtailment without human intervention.
ASHRAE 189.1 & Title 24 Section 110.12
Mandates that newly constructed commercial buildings (≥10,000 SF) must include centralized automated demand responsive controls capable of automatically shedding 15% or more of the building's electrical load in response to utility demand response signals.
Thermal Pre-Cooling Dynamics
To prevent indoor comfort degradation during 3-4 hour summer peak curtailment windows, the building mass is pre-cooled by -2°F to -3°F during off-peak morning hours (9 AM – 12 PM). The stored thermal inertia allows zone temperatures to float without exceeding ASHRAE 55 comfort limits.
