Geothermal Ground Loop & Drilling
Geothermal Ground Loop Pipe Length & Thermally Enhanced Grout Calculator
Calculate vertical closed-loop geothermal ground heat exchanger borehole depth, HDPE U-bend pipe volume, bentonite thermally enhanced grout bags, and silica sand requirements.
Borehole Parameters
Normal clay/sand: 180-220 ft/ton. Hard granite: 140-160 ft/ton.

Thermally enhanced bentonite grout must be pressure-pumped through a tremie pipe from the bottom of the borehole upwards to prevent air voids. Air pockets create thermal barriers that cripple COP efficiency. Adding specialized silica sand achieves thermal conductivity between 0.88 and 1.20 Btu/hr·ft·°F.
